Pizza Ovens

Using a wood fire, pizza ovens are great for cooking pizzas, as well as many other dishes including meat, vegetables.

They are available in two sizes – large and small and comprise the dome, chimney cooking surface bricks and a steel frame to hold these bricks together.

You will need to have an adequate surface on which to position the pizza oven. Please see the simple instructions for ‘prepare your pizza oven.

How do I install my pizza oven for use?

  • Place the metal frame on to your existing surface (the longer side goes from front to back).
  • Lay the bricks long ways inside the frame i.e. from the front to the back inside. This will reduce snagging by the pizza paddle.
  • Lay a generous ring of cement around the area on which the dome will be placed.
  • Position the dome carefully on to the cement.
  • Do not drop the dome down when you remove your fingers.
  • Wipe away the excess cement from inside and outside the dome.
  • Cement the chimney onto the dome. This is optional.
  • Allow to set for one day.
  • How to prepare my pizza oven for first time use.
  • Make a small fire inside, at the back of the oven and let it burn for a couple of hours.
  • Repeat this five times on different days and in five different positions inside the oven.
  • A day after this your pizza oven will be ready to use!!
  • Make your fire at the back of the oven and allow two hours for the bricks to heat before cooking your pizza. Cooking any other type of food can be commenced at any time.
  • Do not make a fire in the front of the oven near the mouth.

TIPS

The best wood to use is light white wood. Dense wood creates too much smoke.

To shorten the heating time of the bricks, when you cook your pizzas, make your fire in the middle of the oven. After approximately half an hour move the coals to the back of the oven and you can start cooking your pizzas.

Although your pizza oven is designed to handle severe heat, some small cracks will form during its lifespan. This should not cause you any alarm as it will not reduce the lifespan of the oven.
